Dear Friends

“Nothing tends more to cement the hearts of Christians than praying together. Never do they love one another so well as when they witness the outpouring of each others’s hearts in prayer.” Charles Finney

The above quote became truth to me this month. A new school year began in September and this year Avant is privilege to be part of the Serve experience at Heritage Bible College. This is a one year course that combines classroom learning and a six week mission trip at the end of the school year to provide a glimpse into missionary work for the students enrolled. I have been working on this for about a year with the Team from Spain. I was to present the Spain trip the first Friday of classes and received word the evening before that the Spain team would not be able to do this any longer. We prayed about what to tell the students and decided to share with them why this was not happening any longer. I was very pleased with the students reactions. One said:” God must have something bigger and better for us to learn, and I am excited to see what that will be.” Another student asked “ Can we take time now to pray for the Spain Team and to ask God for direction for Avant and myself in light of this.” Wow what a wonderful sweet spirit from these students. Over the next few weeks we were able to get a commitment from our team in Portugal to take a team of students and we are excited to see how God will use this for His glory. I spent a weekend at New Tribes Mission (now call Ethnos) with the students. It was an amazing weekend in jungle camp learning about each other as well as Missions. I have also been following up on some contacts from the summer and have visited some churches and other schools. Its been a very busy month but also a very rewarding month for men. One of the highlites was the day of prayer we had for Mobilizers at the Mission Hub in Toronto. The quote above came to life in that time of prayer. The outpouring of love was so evident as we held one another up in prayer. God is so faithful.

On the home front Alicia began an other year of school. She looks forward to going every day and seems to be learning new things as well. We praise God for the help that Leah has been to us and her as she often takes her for the weekends. The bond between the two of them is very strong and they seem to be able to communicate well together. Clara continues her ministry at the Villa and really enjoys being with the people there. Mike is awaiting the results of his court case. Pray that the judge will make a wise design on how best to proceed. Pray for Mike as he comes to mind and pray that we can support him in the best way possible. We are so encouraged by the love support and prayers of all of you. We see God’s hand in our lives each day. Pray that we will trust and obey Him in all things

“ When a Christian shuns fellowship with other Christians, the devil smiles. When he stops studying the Bible, the devil laughs. When he stops praying, the devil shouts for joy. “ Corrie Ten Boom

Do not allow the devil to shout for joy! Together Under The Shadow Of His Wings. Tony and Clara Vanderlaan and Family This is what God does with us when we need the warmth and love He offers. He gathers us under His loving wings to a warm cradle of protection. All we need do in return is give Him the thanks and praise for being with us.
